The Interview
Before we dive into the future, let’s rewind a bit! Tell us a story: what sparked your passion for your industry and led you to where you are today?
Ravi Parikh : Right since my childhood, I was passionate about traveling, especially hiking on the mountains, camping by the riverside, and similar stuff. I used to see a lot of Hollywood movies and serials from where I developed a keen interest in owning and driving my own RV. However, I found that searching for RV parks and campgrounds was challenging because of lack of sufficient data on the subject. That sparked my desire to make it simple for fellow enthusiasts like me.
I started collecting data about RV parks and campgrounds in all the US states painstakingly. I also found out that there was no dedicated site for searching for and booking campgrounds and RV parks in the US. Since I was inclined towards software development and website building, I concentrated on creating a unique search engine specifically dedicated to RV parks and campgrounds in the US. My collected data proved handy as it helped me prepare a comprehensive repository of RV parks and campgrounds.
With the active help of a couple of close friends, we designed the search engine RoverPass, enabling campers and hikers to search for and book their RV parks and campgrounds online. Today, my website is unique because it provides a wealth of information for hikers and campers. It is literally a one-stop solution where camping enthusiasts can get reliable information and make confirmed bookings securely.
What core values and leadership principles have guided you in your journey as a CEO, and how have they shaped your approach to leading your company?
Ravi Parikh : My motto for success in my business endeavors is “Never Stop Learning Because The Moment You Do So, You Stagnate.” I believe in the core principle that a learner is a seeker of knowledge. Once you seek knowledge, you become humble because you find that the more you learn, the more you find that your search for knowledge is infinite. As you learn, you develop your psychological and spiritual faculties, making you a calm and composed human being. I believe that “Being human is more important than being a human being.” It ensures that you treat others with the respect they deserve. Automatically, you gain their respect, and find that life is comfortable, even in this cut-throat competitive world.
I follow these principles when leading my team members at RoverPass. I trust it helps me bring out the best in every team member, making them eager to work harder and bringing laurels to themselves and the organization they are associated with. Satisfied employees are the best brand ambassadors for your company because they take great pride in being associated with their organization. That brings in the element of loyalty, trust, and the desire to work together to make their organization the best in the business. I proudly state that we at RoverPass have been greatly successful in achieving this objective.
Can you share a pivotal moment or challenge you faced as a CEO, and the strategies you employed to overcome it while maintaining your leadership vision and guiding your team?
Ravi Parikh : Like most industrial sectors, my business too suffered a lot during the COVID pandemic. With people confined to their homes, the travel and tourism sector was hit severely. However, I used this opportunity to strengthen my website, infuse more security features, make it more attractive and useful for my customers. So, my website was ready with the latest features when the pandemic threat subsided and people started to explore travel avenues. Therefore, it did not take much time for us to hit the straps when things started to normalize. I am thankful to my team for having stood together in these times of crisis and worked tirelessly to ensure that our reputation does not spiral downwards.
What advice would you offer to aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs who are looking to make an impact in their industries and lead their companies to success, based on your own experiences and insights?
Ravi Parikh : My advice to aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs is “Never give up on your sincere efforts because you never know when you might turn the corner. You should be ready to give it you all when things improve so that you gain the extra advantage over your competitors in the business.”
